Behavioural Design training for sustainability

Everyone wants to be sustainable, and hardly anyone makes the sustainable choice.

How much effect your sustainability plans have depends on how much influence you have on the choices and behaviour of people. Fortunately, that can be learnt. In our online course you learn how to make the sustainable choice the easy one.

What you do differently on Monday.

  • You know why good intentions stay intentions. You see what holds people back: habit, convenience or what colleagues do.
  • You make the sustainable choice the easiest one.In the canteen, in procurement, in the default setting.
  • You get colleagues and suppliers on board.Even when sustainability is not top of their list.

Food System transition is, in part, about stakeholders moving from current practices to more sustainable practices. I think the influence model can help chart what is holding different parties back and what can set them in motion.

A good reminder of all the essential behavioural insights. But mainly useful to learn how to convert behavioural insights into interventions in a structured manner. The day was well organized (with vegetarian options at lunch) and a great group of people.

The path

The same method, online, at your own pace.

Lesson by lesson you work on one question: why does your colleague, customer or partner do what they do? You apply it straight away with the tools of the SUE Influence Framework©. Then the fix: how do you make the sustainable choice the easiest choice, and how do you put AI to work on it? In 33 lessons at your own pace you collect downloads and tools you use for your own programme, campaign or procurement policy on Monday.

Through your employer

How to get your employer on board

Most participants take the training on their employer’s budget or their own training budget. The VAT invoice goes to your organisation: €1,490 excl. VAT. Open the email below, fill in three things and send it to your manager.

Subject: Request for the training The Art of Influence©Dear [name], I would like to attend SUE's training The Art of Influence©: two days in Amsterdam on [date], 1,490 euros excl. VAT. SUE invoices [organisation] directly. People say sustainability matters, but their behaviour hardly changes. We usually try to fix that with better arguments. The SUE method turns that round: first understand why someone does or doesn't do something, then design the situation so the behaviour we want becomes the easy option. The training works with real examples from practice. I bring back the Influence Framework, the templates and cheat cards, and use them afterwards on [project or question]. I also come back with an EQAC-accredited certificate. If you agree, I will book this week. Best regards, [name]
Which one is on your desk?

Six questions every sustainability professional recognises.

Why does everyone say they want to be sustainable, and hardly anyone does it?

Wanting is not the same as doing. The old choice is quicker, cheaper or simply what everyone does.

More on sustainable behaviour →

The CSRD figures are in. How do I get the organisation moving?

A report shows where you stand. The behaviour behind those figures only changes when the sustainable choice gets easier in everyday work.

More on behaviour change →

How do I bring suppliers along on sustainability?

Every supplier has its own worries and its own interests. Map them before you start negotiating.

More on influencing →

Why do shoppers still pick the regular product?

In the shop, people decide in seconds. Whatever is up front and feels familiar wins.

More on consumer behaviour →

How do I talk about sustainability without it becoming greenwashing?

Big promises make people suspicious. Show one concrete thing you already do, and make joining in easy.

More on persuasion →

How do I make policy that really helps people live more sustainably?

Policy that leans on information changes little. Policy that makes the choice easier does.

Frequently asked questions

What sustainability professionals ask before they sign up.

I know nothing about behavioural science. Is this still right for me as a sustainability professional?

Most participants start without any prior knowledge. You learn exactly the behavioural science you need, and you apply it straight away to real-life examples. Afterwards you know how to use it in your programme, campaign or policy.

I have worked on sustainability for years. Will I still learn something new?

That is exactly when it pays off. You already know the targets and the numbers. The training shows why people still do not move. After two days you know what to change about their situation.

Who will I be in the group with?

A mixed group of up to 16 people: marketers, HR, communications, lawyers, policymakers and managers. The mix is on purpose. You see how someone from another sector wrestles with exactly the same kind of question.

Can I claim this back from my employer?

Yes. We invoice in your company’s name and the training is EQAC-accredited. That makes reimbursement easier. Need a quote or more information for your request? Get in touch.

You can keep asking people to choose more sustainably. Or you can learn to design that choice. The Art of Influence© online · start today
